Q. Lately I've been reading up on Linux in general and now I am ready to settle into a distro. So if I was to read up on Ubuntu could I apply that to Mint as well?
Will the commands be the same as well?
Will the commands be the same as well?
A. All three use the Linux Kernel
What is Linux

What is Debian

What is Ubuntu

What is Linux Mint
http://www.linuxmint.com/about.php
Ubuntu is based on Debian although somewhat loosely and many Debian purists will go to great lengths to point this out
Linux Mint has Ubuntu at its base.
Therefore without Debian there would be no Ubuntu subsequently without Ubuntu there would be no Linux Mint
Much of the Documentation available for Ubuntu is also applicable to Linux Mint

With Linux Mint now sourcing from Pure Debian does this spell the beginning of the end for Ubuntu based distro?
Q. Nathan
I am currently Dual Booting Linux Mint 11 and Linux Mint Debian Edition therefore I can carry out a direct comparison and I have concluded Linux Mint 11 will be the last Ubuntu based release I shall be working with.

A. Talking in terms of the Ubuntu-based Mint distro, I would have to say yes. But it will take some time before LMDE is as noob friendly as the Ubuntu base. If I had to guess, I would say the Ubuntu-based Mint will be gone in about a year.
And if the trend keeps going the way it has been recently, a lot of other distros may decide to switch to a Mint-based distro at that time. I hope Clem and the gang are ready for that.

Now that Linux Mint (Debian) has been released could it replace Ubuntu as the number one choice?
Q.
A. People need to know that there is more distribution available to them, and that the Community distribution are better than the commercial versions. Though the commercial versions introduce cutting edge technology
I am glad Mint have brought out a Debian version, I downloaded and installed it, I'm testing it out now, It's more responsive and faster than Mint Ubuntu, I have not got Compiz working.at the moment. I think LMDE will take off once the development team get things are sorted out, can't wait for that to happen
