I have found several LiveXP systems for USB but they are based off BartPE and offer limited hardware support. Is there a way to boot a full Xp with drivers ff a flash drive to play games?

A. These seem to all be online flash games. Just install Adobe Flash on the computer (it is probably there already) and load up the page and play the games.

However not all games are compatible with wine so you'll have to Google specific games to see their compatibility. for example if you want to play Splinter cell 3 on Linux with wine you could Google "is splinter cell 3 compatible with wine" or "splinter cell 3 on Linux"
