Q. I am developing a small embedded debian linux device with firefox/iceweasel and a 7" touchscreen display. I need to create a custom action/response/page/redirect when the device boots and can not connect to the network (i.e. some 4xx http error, can't reach http://www.linux.org/). Is there something built into firefox? If not, any other ideas? Thank You!!!

A. Without knowing what you are trying to embed in there can be no definitive answer..
BUT...
http://openembedded.net
is a great placve to start deving a kernel for your system.
bitbaking is kind of a pain in the rear, but you'll get used to it after a few runs.
Good luck.

what is different with windows xp embedded and linux?
Q. what is the different? and which is better? how both works?
A. Linux is opensource so it is supported by a community of users while windows is not and is owned and supported by Microsoft, many more programs are made for Windows than for Linux, Linux is free though so if you gotta budget that's a major plus however compatibility with programs would be a negative however there are many programs which have similar functionality as the Windows conterparts generally Windows is just more widely adopted throughout the consumer market as well as among businesses unless it comes to servers which is widely diversified but Windows is still a huge player ther as well
