how can i copy text from windows and paste in in linux 'screen' shell?

Q. I want to run my matlab code in linux 'screen' program. and im not sure how to do that. I initiate screen, and then write matlab -nodisplay. so the matlab starts. however, im not sure how can i run my code in it. shal i just copy paste my code in the shell? how?

A. Save your code as a .m file (for example your_code.m)

Copy the .m file into the Linux directory you are launching Matlab from
OR
lanch Matlab and cd into the directory where you put the .m file

Run your code by typing the name of the .m file into Matlab command window. So if your code is called 'your_code.m', ou'd type 'your_code' into Matlab and it will run.

The .m file can be a function with a return value, or it can be a script with just a list of commands.

How to Change The Puppy Linux Screen Size?

Q. I don't mean it make fullscreen or something. At the set-up screen I picked the wrong xxxx*xxxx pixels formatting, and I don't know how to change it.

A. Try:
Menu
...Setup
......Xorg Video wizard

Or Xvesa Video Wizard if you are using Xvesa - but don't worry if you don't know whether you are using Xorg or Xvesa, just try either and it will tell you if that is the wrong one.
.... but you are probably using Xorg unless it's a very old computer, so you will most likely see the 'Resolution changer' option in the Xorg Video Wizard and that should do what you want.

Q. I'm using feisty fawn. It does that whether I'm in full screen mode or not.. I played with the video settings, and it does the same thing.. on every part of the game.

A. As good as Ubuntu 7.04 is its starting to get a bit long in the tooth now, besides support sadly ends at the end of October. I recommend you upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10 http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ (My prefence) with which you can carry out a rolling upgrade via the Update Manager without the need for a reinstallation http://www.ubuntugeek.com/upgrade-ubuntu-704-feisty-fawn-to-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html or you could upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04.1 http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/ however this would require a fresh installation. Either option I am almost certain would be a solution to the problem.

A. I recommend trying LinuxMINT or ZorinOS. These Linux distributions have all of the multimedia codecs pre-installed. When connecting an mp3 player in Linux, it will immediately recognise your device and allow you to transfer your files, much the same as you would transfer files to a flash disk. If you are new to Linux, I have several informative videos on Youtube. You can download the distro, burn it to disk and run it without installing to your hard drive. How can I change the size of my Ubuntu Linux screen to fit my laptop monitor?

Q. My Ubuntu screen is too small and I don't know how to change the screen size to fit the monitor.

A. System -> Administration -> Monitor

How to test if ram is working on new build?

Q. Hi, I just finished building my new computer and I'm now keen to put an operating system on it. I chose Linux (because it's free) but just after the Linux screen appears freezes, it just goes to the loading screen and stays there. I'm wondering if the ram isn't working. Is it possible to test if my ram is working without an operating system? Like in the bios or something? Please Help, thanks.
No, the ram works so this question is a bit pointless now.

A. Take out all but 1 stick of ram. If that doesn't work, try another stick. If both of those sticks don't work, try ram from your old comp if it works (it should, as it worked in your old comp). Very often 1 stick of ram comes dead

How do I turn my PS3 to its normal state from the Linux Boot up?
Q. I have PS3 60 GB, and I have tried to install Linux. And when I have done, then I restarted my PS3. But when I did that, a black linux boot screen showed up instead of the the normal PS3 system. And when i am in that boot screen, it says that i have to install or just try out the Linux. How do get to the normal PS3 system from there?

A. 1. Turn the PS3 off (into standby).
2. Turn it on by holding the PS3's power button for about 5 seconds until you hear a second beep.
3. The PS3 will boot to the XMB OS and go back to default video settings.

Now that you're back in the PS3's XMB you can format the hard drive and remove linux (and its partition) from the hard drive. Back any PS3 game save files up before you do so, because they will all be deleted as well.

How to test if ram is working on new build?

Q. Hi, I just finished building my new computer and I'm now keen to put an operating system on it. How to capture C and CPP files in the linux operating system?
Q. I am new to linux and have been trying to figure this out forever for a homework assignment! I am supposed to use appropriate linux commands to capture all "C or CPP" files in the linux operating system and make a list of the files. I am using Xubuntu. I am a beginner and could use any advice! Thanks!

A. What does it mean to capture a file??

If you mean to find the files and list the results, use the 'find' command to search for *.c and *.cpp files in the whole system. You will get the result on the screen, and you can redirect the output to a file.

To find *.c files:
find / -name *.c

To find *.cpp files:
find / -name *.cpp

Explanation: the "/" means to start the search at the top of the file system, meaning that the search will include all the system. The "-name" means to search by name, and "*.c" is the file pattern you want to find.

To redirect the output, use "> output_file" for example:
find / -name *.cpp > output_file

What other color of death screens for a computer are there?
Q. I knew of blue and have just recently found out about the red screen. I'm not computer savvy so I don't know a whole lot about them.

Are there any other colors of death for a computer screen?

A. The Blue Screen of Death (also called BSOD, BAD for Blue And Dead, stop error, or bluescreen) is a common name for a screen displayed by the Microsoft Windows operating system when a system error occurs. At times a Red Screen of Death (RSoD) may appear, as seen on the Windows 2008 server and a few beta builds of Windows, such as Memphis or Longhorn. It defines very critical hardware errors or boot errors.
The Black Screen of Death is usually one of four things: a failure mode of Microsoft Windows 3.x, the screen displayed by the OS/2 operating system in the event of either a system error from which it cannot recover or a "hard" error in a program running in "full screen" mode (the former being a serious system failure but the latter being a less serious application failure), the Nintendo Wii's non-recoverable brick screen, or the Linux Black Screen of Death. how can i copy text from windows and paste in in linux 'screen' shell?

Q. I want to run my matlab code in linux 'screen' program. and im not sure how to do that. I initiate screen, and then write matlab -nodisplay. so the matlab starts. however, im not sure how can i run my code in it. shal i just copy paste my code in the shell? how?

A. Save your code as a .m file (for example your_code.m)

Copy the .m file into the Linux directory you are launching Matlab from
OR
lanch Matlab and cd into the directory where you put the .m file

Run your code by typing the name of the .m file into Matlab command window. So if your code is called 'your_code.m', ou'd type 'your_code' into Matlab and it will run.

The .m file can be a function with a return value, or it can be a script with just a list of commands.

Q. I don't mean it make fullscreen or something. At the set-up screen I picked the wrong xxxx*xxxx pixels formatting, and I don't know how to change it.

A. Try:
Menu
...Setup
......Xorg Video wizard

Or Xvesa Video Wizard if you are using Xvesa - but don't worry if you don't know whether you are using Xorg or Xvesa, just try either and it will tell you if that is the wrong one.
.... but you are probably using Xorg unless it's a very old computer, so you will most likely see the 'Resolution changer' option in the Xorg Video Wizard and that should do what you want.
(or you can run the full wizard to set up all the Xorg or Xvesa settings)

How do I turn my PS3 to its normal state from the Linux Boot up?

Q. I have PS3 60 GB, and I have tried to install Linux. And when I have done, then I restarted my PS3. But when I did that, a black linux boot screen showed up instead of the the normal PS3 system. And when i am in that boot screen, it says that i have to install or just try out the Linux. How do get to the normal PS3 system from there?

A. 1. Turn the PS3 off (into standby).
2. Turn it on by holding the PS3's power button for about 5 seconds until you hear a second beep.
3. The PS3 will boot to the XMB OS and go back to default video settings.

Now that you're back in the PS3's XMB you can format the hard drive and remove linux (and its partition) from the hard drive. Back any PS3 game save files up before you do so, because they will all be deleted as well.

How to capture C and CPP files in the linux operating system?

Q. I am new to linux and have been trying to figure this out forever for a homework assignment! I am supposed to use appropriate linux commands to capture all "C or CPP" files in the linux operating system and make a list of the files. I am using Xubuntu. I am a beginner and could use any advice! Thanks!

A. What does it mean to capture a file??

If you mean to find the files and list the results, use the 'find' command to search for *.c and *.cpp files in the whole system. You will get the result on the screen, and you can redirect the output to a file.

To find *.c files:
find / -name *.c

To find *.cpp files:
find / -name *.cpp

Explanation: the "/" means to start the search at the top of the file system, meaning that the search will include all the system. The "-name" means to search by name, and "*.c" is the file pattern you want to find.

To redirect the output, use "> output_file" for example:
find / -name *.cpp > output_file

How to fix the blue screen of death on a dell windows 7 coumputer?

I need help, my windows 7 got the blue screen if death and it tells me that it needs to shut down to prevent damage and its hard trying to fix it because it only take 2 minutes to say it again and I can't format it because if that blue screen of death doesn't happen then the computer ends up freezing and I don't want to format it and don't say I should of backed everything up because I only had it for 2 weeks and never went on the Internet before on it and how the hell did I know it was gonna get the blue screen of death in 2 weeks on a brand new computer?

Boot to a Linux distro on a thumb drive to verify that this is hardware related and has nothing to do with windows. Try Puppy Linux.

These symptoms can also be caused by an unstable power source. If your wall outlet is constantly dropping voltage for whatever reason, this can be just as bad as a voltage spike. A UPS (uninteruptable power supply) will protect it from further damage and is just nice to have even if this isn't the cause.

How to test if ram is working on new build?

Q. Hi, I just finished building my new computer and I'm now keen to put an operating system on it. I chose Linux (because it's free) but just after the Linux screen appears freezes, it just goes to the loading screen and stays there. I'm wondering if the ram isn't working. Is it possible to test if my ram is working without an operating system? Like in the bios or something? Please Help, thanks.
No, the ram works so this question is a bit pointless now.

A. Take out all but 1 stick of ram. If that doesn't work, try another stick. If both of those sticks don't work, try ram from your old comp if it works (it should, as it worked in your old comp). Very often 1 stick of ram comes dead

Q. I'm using feisty fawn. It does that whether I'm in full screen mode or not.. I played with the video settings, and it does the same thing.. on every part of the game.

A. As good as Ubuntu 7.04 is its starting to get a bit long in the tooth now, besides support sadly ends at the end of October. I recommend you upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10 http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ (My prefence) with which you can carry out a rolling upgrade via the Update Manager without the need for a reinstallation http://www.ubuntugeek.com/upgrade-ubuntu-704-feisty-fawn-to-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html or you could upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04.1 http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/ however this would require a fresh installation. Either option I am almost certain would be a solution to the problem.

If u can screen shot?

A. I recommend trying LinuxMINT or ZorinOS. These Linux distributions have all of the multimedia codecs pre-installed. When connecting an mp3 player in Linux, it will immediately recognise your device and allow you to transfer your files, much the same as you would transfer files to a flash disk. If you are new to Linux, I have several informative videos on Youtube. You can download the distro, burn it to disk and run it without installing to your hard drive.
